CIRED workshops on specific topics are organized every two years between CIRED main conferences. In 2018, the workshop will address "Microgrids and Local Energy Communities". 

Here are the key dates for this workshop:

• December 15, 2017: Abstract submission
• January 29, 2018: Notification of acceptance
• March 23, 2018: Full paper submission
• June 7-8, 2018: CIRED Workshop

Here are the key topics for the workshop:

• Regulatory aspects
• The roles and responsibilities of the different actors
• Handling of actor interfaces
• Business models for stimulating cost efficient implementation and utilization
• Business cases for microgrids and local energy communities (from the point of view of system operators, aggregators and customers)
• Impact on network architecture and system development of services offered by microgrids and local energy communities (e.g., increasing of hosting capacity, resiliency, flexibility, investment deferment)
• Models and tools for including microgrids and local energy communities in development studies, including multi-energy hubs
• Microgrids and local energy communities to provide security of supply beyond the parameters associated with the DSO
• The coordinated control of many distributed sources with different technical characteristics and possible conflicting requirements
• Ride-through capabilities, essential for the stable operation of microgrids, especially when in islanded mode of operation
• Efficient load-sharing capabilities among power electronics interfaced distributed generators
• Protection and safety issues
• The design and dimensioning of storage and controllers able to face the requirements posed by the islanded operation and during transitions from interconnected to islanded mode.
• Assessment of services offered by microgrids and local energy communities. (e.g., post fault services, resiliency increase, flexibility)

CIRED Workshop 2014

CIRED workshops are organized every two years between CIRED main conferences.

The CIRED Workshop 2014 is entitled "Challenges of Implementing Active Distribution System Management" and will be held in Rome on 11-12 June 2014.

The objectives of this workshop are

• To appraise the present state of the art solutions and discuss the expected progress in integrating renewable and electric vehicles charging stations into distribution networks.
• To discuss how active distribution system management will facilitate the transition towards a low carbon economy, while constantly maintaining and improving the power quality provided to customers

The US National Committee for CIRED will be represented on the workshop committee by Mark McGranaghan.

CIRED Workshop 2010

Sustainable Distribution Asset Management & Financing

July 7-8, Lyon, France

CIRED workshops are organized in even years, between the main conferences. They focus on topical issues and challenges faced by the Electricity Distribution community. The Smart Grid was addressed in 2008. The 2010 workshop is taking the perspective of the impact on the assets and investments.
